Thuja, Taxus, or Cupressocyparis. The choice is yours.
Recently, we wrote about the benefits of surrounding yourself with hedges. We focused on deciduous shrubs, so today it's the turn of conifers.
The undoubted advantage of coniferous hedges is that they provide us with privacy all year round and do not lose leaves that need removal. Of course, there are voices that conifers are boring, but ... well, we see it differently.
First, a wide selection of species and varieties allows you to create compositions that suit your tastes and needs. Young growths are usually much brighter than older shoots, which gives the whole thing a fresh, joyful look. Coniferous hedges can be formed freely and if someone wants to surround the property with a green wall in the "castle" style (with towers, battlements, and shooting windows), there is no problem. All you need is a good hedge trimmer, a bit of imagination, and time.
But jokes aside. Hedges are a serious business because they decorate, provide privacy, separate from noise, and protect against street dust and winter winds, thanks to which the garden is warmer and we can grow more exotic plants. Coniferous hedges are a shelter for birds and a brilliant background for blooming perennials, colorful shrubs, and elements of garden architecture.
We are pleased to encourage you to order coniferous plants that we still have on offer. Among them you will find:
- Cupressocyparis l. 'Tweeduizendéén' with grey-green (blue-grey) scales that quickly forms a dense hedge (regular pruning recommended)
- Taxus baccata
- Taxus media in the varieties 'Hicksii', 'Green Mountain', 'Kazio' PBR with a beautiful, regular, narrow columnar habit
- Thuja occidentalis cannot be missing from our list. 'Strasko W.B.' or Thuja occ. 'Totem Smaragd'PBR that naturally holds a nice, elegant shape and looks more subtle than other thujas
- for lower hedges, we definitely recommend Thuja occidentalis 'Stolwijk' or Thuja plicata 'Can-Can', which, apart from its slow growth pace, is characterized by creamy young growths that look nice against the darker green of older shoots
- and finally Thuja plicata 'Gelderland', whose name refers to the beautiful Dutch province where our nursery is located.
Let us know which plants aroused your interest. Leafy hedge plants are still available. If you have any questions, we are at your disposal.
