The soothing, cool glow of the moon, or perhaps the energy of a blue arrow?
It sounds mysterious, but we're asking about two beautiful varieties of columnar junipers: Juniperus scop. 'Blue Arrow' and 'Moonglow' which are available in our offer.
Shapely, grown, rooted - see the photos below.
Both varieties have similar uses. They are suitable for hedges that provide privacy, or as towering, expressive accents in complex plant compositions, in modern and classic spaces. Both glow with the blue of needles. But what's the difference?
Firstly - a shade of blue.
Blue Arrow is a bright blue-green with bold silver berries (liked by birds), and Moonglow is a silvery-blue, with a much cooler hue, more lunar-like.
Secondly - the shape.
Blue Arrow is fast-growing, columnar, and very narrow, only about 60 cm wide. Moonglow has an upright, but more pyramidal shape, with a clearly wider base. It grows to about 120-150 cm in width.
Both reach a height of 3-4 m.
Thirdly - frost resistance.
Blue Arrow will work well in climates where temperatures drop to around 30° C and Moonglow will work where frosts reach up to 40° C.
What both varieties have in common is that they are dense, compact, drought-resistant, and undemanding. They secure our privacy, provide a good hiding place and winter food for birds, and give us the opportunity to observe them.
