Willows - plants for demanding times
For centuries, willows (Salix) have been a symbol of survival and recovery, even in difficult conditions. Willow branches are difficult to break, and if this happens, they quickly grow again. Willows also symbolize the open expression of emotions - joy, love, and sadness. They say that even in the most challenging moments, there is always an opportunity to grow, to create something new, often better than what was in the past.
Let's plant willows and believe in their magical power!

A sensational shrub that grows up to 2-3 m tall and similar width witch is irreplaceable in wet and difficult areas. If you want to limit its growth, you can cut it almost to the ground every 3-5 years.

Salix gracilistyla 'Melanostachys' - Black Pussy Willow
Interesting willow with very dark purple, almost black catkins. Like all willows, it feels good in sunny, wetlands. It grows up to 2-3 m high and 1.5-2 m wide. To rejuvenate the plant and obtain more young, dark shoots, it can be cut almost to the ground every 3-5 years. Cut branches with catkins you can use for dry compositions - they look interesting in narrow, tall vases.

Salix gracilistyla 'Mount Aso' - Pink Pussy Willow
Willow Mount Aso is called after the largest Japanese volcano and, like it, makes an amazing impression. In February / March, it's covered with large, intensively pink catkins. It looks fantastic next to the yellow conifers!
Unfortunately, it's sold out. I posted it here to complete the colorful collection of Salix gracilistyla varieties. Good news - it will be available again next season.

Salix purpurea 'Nana' - Dwarf Arctic Willow
A very dense willow variety that looks beautiful when used as a hedge or to strengthen embankments. It has delicate, maroon shoots that turn into olive green. Birds like dense bushes of Salix purpurea 'Nana' as their nesting place.

Salix alba 'Dart's Snake' - Dart’s Snake Willow / Twisted Willow Dart's Snake
That's a beautiful, upright, deciduous tree with twisted dark (almost black) branches and a vigorous growth. The leaves are shiny deep green and curled, which matches perfectly with the contorted form of this plant. In spring you will enjoy yellow catkins.
It grows to 6 m heights and 5 m width (after 20 years). If you find it too big, just take your tree pruner and prune it! After this treatment, the plant will be even more beautiful, and the branches you can put to a vase to decorate your living room.
