Last weekend was wonderfully spring,
full of sun, birds singing, and... wind.
We were sitting in the garden, in the sun, in a place sheltered from the wind and people's eyes. A beautiful, molded yew (Taxus) hedge guarded our privacy and quiet. A small area with a table and two armchairs became an oasis of peace for us because the hedge softened the noise from the street (and the traffic yesterday was exceptionally heavy... cars with double exhaust pipes and motorcycles, definitely too fast for the sleepy streets of our town, felt spring and took to the streets en masse).
But I don't want to write about the automotive industry, but about plants and their fantastic soundproofing properties. Research confirms that even a medium-wide hedge reduces the impact of street noise, and if it is a coniferous hedge, we can benefit from its unique properties all year round*. And if it is a Taxus hedge, birds also benefit from it, as they eagerly feed on the fruits of these shrubs in winter.
Hedges are the most common use for Taxus media 'Hicksii' or 'Hillii'. This is not surprising, because they are resistant, beautiful, healthy, grow relatively quickly, thicken nicely, tolerate shaping perfectly, and can be kept under control. Other varieties that are great for hedges are Taxus media 'Groenland' or 'Densiformis' (the latter will also look great as a taller groundcover).
The good news is that all the above-mentioned varieties are still available in our offer. So, if you want your customers to:
- enjoy privacy and relative silence in a busy and noisy world,
- observe birds nesting, raising young, or eating juicy berries,
offer them Taxus in various varieties and applications, not only as a hedge (we sincerely recommend it) but also as living, green garden sculptures.
Do you have any questions? Write to us, we will be happy to advise you and help you choose the most beautiful varieties.
*a deciduous hedge is most effective in summer when the plants have leaves, but in winter it also muffles sounds, although to a lesser extent.
