We enjoy finding and matching the meaning of plant names to their character, personality, and appearance... Let's take, for example, the more or less hidden meanings of Hydrangea paniculata names (the following associations are our private creations, not the official standard).
For example,
'Graffiti' is associated with something unconventional, it is an expression of rebellion and creative expression. And this is how Hydrangea 'Graffiti' "behaves" - it is not subject to conventions, it dresses itself in the colors it wants, regardless of others. A bit of green, aquamarine, and pink underlined with pure white? Of course, why not! Unconventionally, to stand out from the crowd, to surprise.
Or the well-known variety
'Limelight', whose name puts it in the bright light of lamps, attracts attention, breaks out of the darkness... Is there anyone who will pass by 'Limelight' without noticing it? It doesn't matter if it's single, in a pot on the terrace, or in a group, it always has a 'wow' effect! Large, numerous flowers and a healthy appearance prevent you from looking away!
A bit of freshness is hidden in
'Little Fresco', because "fresco" in Portuguese means freshness. In addition, it has an artistic, hidden name, because "fresco" means a mural, a painting on a wall. Both translations fit perfectly - 'Little Fresco' is as fresh as a spring breeze and the first blades of grass breaking through the soil, and is a small, living work of horticultural art.
We can go on... let's take
'Polar Bear'. I remember the first time I saw this variety at an exhibition (many years ago), I was struck by the impressive size and pure whiteness of the flowers. Like a polar bear in the snow ;)
'Skyfall' is the perfect name for a variety that from the very beginning almost overwhelms with the beauty and abundance of flowers that cover the shoots, and leaves, and dominate everything around. In addition, they have an exciting shape and dry nicely on the shoots, creating a durable, winter decoration.
We suggest spicing the above with a bit of
'Vanille-Fraise', which looks just like it's called, i.e. strawberry sorbet with vanilla cream, and add a summer refreshment in the form of celadon, fresh
'Mojito'.
On a more serious note,
our list includes "must-have" varieties of Hydrangea paniculata and some less-known but equally beautiful ones in P9, P12, P14, and even C5!
