A green carpet that does more than look good đż
Some plants stand out because of their flowers. Others quietly do an important job in the garden.
Groundcover perennials quickly cover the soil, help suppress weeds and bring structure and colour to planting schemes throughout the season. They are practical, reliable and especially useful in borders, woodland gardens and larger landscape projects.
This week, we are putting four of them in the spotlight: Waldsteinia, Vinca, Pachysandra and Potentilla.
A touch of yellow in spring – Waldsteinia ternata
Fresh green foliage, a dense growth habit and bright yellow flowers in spring.
Waldsteinia ternata forms a compact evergreen carpet and performs particularly well in shady and semi-shady locations.
A simple, reliable choice where good soil coverage is just as important as seasonal colour.
One classic, many different looks
Vinca minor
Vinca is probably one of the best-known evergreen groundcovers.
Its vigorous growth, glossy leaves and delicate flowers make it a familiar sight in gardens and landscape planting. But look a little closer and there is much more variation than you might expect.
Our assortment includes:
- Vinca minor âAlbaâ â fresh green foliage with elegant white flowers.
- Vinca minor âArgenteovariegataâ â green foliage finished with a creamy-white margin.
- Vinca minor âAtropurpureaâ â a darker selection with striking deep purple-blue flowers.
- Vinca minor âIlluminationâ â one of the most eye-catching varieties, with bright golden-yellow foliage and a contrasting green margin.
- Vinca minor âLa Graveâ â vigorous growth, dark green foliage and violet-blue flowers.
- Vinca minor âSengâ â a compact, spreading selection with attractive evergreen foliage.
And for those looking for white flowers, Vinca minor âWhite Powerâ produces an abundance of bright white blooms above fresh green foliage. One genus, many different possibilities.
Evergreen structure for shady places – Pachysandra terminalis
For areas with less light, Pachysandra is another dependable option.
Its glossy foliage creates a dense evergreen carpet and provides structure throughout the year.
âGreen Carpetâ is exactly what the name suggests: a reliable, dense-growing variety with fresh green foliage.
âGreen Sheenâ stands out through its particularly glossy, deep green leaves.
And for a brighter effect, âVariegataâ combines green foliage with contrasting creamy-white markings.
Something a little different – Potentilla âNuukâ
Not every groundcover needs to create the same look.
Potentilla âNuukâ has a fresh and natural character, combining compact growth with delicate white flowers.
It is a useful choice for adding a lighter, more informal touch to borders and mass planting.
From green carpets to colourful details
