Pyracantha (Firethorn): structure, colour and reliability in one range
Pyracantha is a robust, evergreen shrub valued for its dense, thorny structure, glossy foliage and reliable berry set. After abundant spring flowering, berries colour up from late summer onwards and remain decorative well into winter, extending the sales window beyond the main growing season. Pyracantha performs consistently under a wide range of conditions, tolerates pruning well and is suitable for hedging, wall training and landscape use. With clear colour differentiation and strong garden performance, it remains a dependable choice for both growers and retailers.
All varieties below are available as liners P9.
Red-berried varieties
- Pyracantha coccinea ‘Red Cushion’
- Pyracantha coccinea ‘Red Star’ PBR
- Pyracantha ‘Mohave’
These red-berried varieties form the classic core of the Pyracantha assortment. They are characterised by reliable, intense red berry set and strong structural growth, delivering proven performance for autumn and winter sales. Growth habits range from compact and spreading types, such as ‘Red Cushion’, to more vigorous, upright varieties like ‘Mohave’, making this group suitable for both smaller hedges and larger landscape applications. Overall, this group offers maximum reliability and broad applicability.
Orange(-red) varieties
- Pyracantha coccinea ‘Orange Star’ PBR
- Pyracantha ‘Orange Charmer’
- Pyracantha ‘Orange Glow’
The orange and orange-red varieties add warmth and visual variation while maintaining the same robustness and consistency expected from Pyracantha. Plants show dense, well-branched habits with good berry coverage and long-lasting ornamental value. Their warm colour tones stand out clearly on retail benches and combine well with both red- and yellow-berried selections, making this group particularly suitable for mixed assortments and decorative planting schemes.
Yellow-berried varieties
- Pyracantha coccinea ‘Sunny Star’ PBR
- Pyracantha ‘Golden Charmer’
- Pyracantha ‘Soleil d’Or’

Their lighter colouring extends the visual range of the Pyracantha assortment while maintaining reliable berry formation and consistent garden performance.
