Novelties for the 2022-2023 season
Today we present another dose of new plants for the coming season. Intense colors, expressive, a bit dark, elegant, but also airy, colorful, and subtle. All this is in a Magical collection from Kolster BV.
Avalanche warning!
Choisya ternata ‘Magical Avalanche’®, which looks what it is called, i.e. a green mountain covered with an avalanche of white flowers. With a slight orange scent.
The first flowers can appear already in April and often blooms for the second time at the end of summer.
Magical Avalanche is a compact and evergreen shrub which grows up to 1,25 m.
Red? Green? Maroon?
Great varieties of Cotinus, i.e. smoke trees with extremely dense flower heads, are perfect for the garden and flower arrangements, as a colorful, fluffy filling in bouquets, adds lightness and airiness.
- Cotinus cog. ‘Magical Green Fountain’® with stunning pale pink flower plumes. The vivid green buds are particularly eye-catching in early summer.
- Cotinus cog. ‘Magical Purple’® has an intense dark red color of leaves and it’s highly decorative. The plant has a bushy and upright growth habit.
- Cotinus cog. ‘Magical Red Fountain’® with its attractive and extravagant red flower plumes in early summer is one of the strongest color elements of any garden.
Chocolate with mint
Amazing hydrangeas, that is, two unique varieties:
- Hydrangea m. ´Green Cloud´, which is covered with numerous light green flowers that turn dark green with a little red in time. Amazing effect!
- Hydrangea macr. ‘Chocolate’®, the dark queen of summer with dark leaves and chocolate flowers. With a bit of dark green. Very elegant, ideal for prestigious locations and modern garden arrangements, in which we want to create intriguing color combinations.
Miniature Physocarpus – for people and for animals
We are expanding the collection of miniature Physocarpus that grow up to about 1 m in height and width.
We like them for their low requirements, making them suitable even for inexperienced gardeners, and also for growing in containers, so they can be used in small urban spaces. Residents will appreciate the colors and decorative qualities, and city insects and birds will be interested in numerous flowers and fruits.
- Physocarpus opulif. ‘Magical Raspberry Lemon’® with green-golden, small leaves, which form a nice background for the numerous white flowers, with which coral red (raspberry) fruits are formed. The whole thing looks attractive and adds color and freshness.
- Physocarpus opulif. ‘Magical Sweet Cherry Tea’® with leaves that are initially orange-red, which darken to dark purple with time, to turn maroon red in autumn.
The cherry on a cake with a “wow” effect
Sorbaria sor. ‘Magical Cherry on Top’®, like every Sorbaria, has pretty, feathery, heavily serrated leaves of various shades of green, with a touch of pink and orange, and large, fluffy white inflorescences (loved by butterflies).
What makes it unique are the deep cherry red seed pods that look like … cherry on the cake. They add style and character. And if you plant Magical Cherry on Top® near yellow-leaved plants, the “wow” effect is sure to be true!
Chocolate cake in a raspberry sauce*
The new faces of snowberries, i.e. 3 magical varieties of Symphoricarpos with erect shoots and hard fruit. The maroon leaves and dark pink fruit make the bushes look like a chocolate cake in a raspberry sauce:
- Symphoricarpos d. ‘Magical Berry Christmas’®
- Symphoricarpos d. ‘Magical Winterberry’®
- Symphoricarpos o. ´Magical Berry Christmas´
*Sorry for all of today’s sweet dessert comparisons. It’s such a summerly, fruity day today.
A bit of Magical Blues
Beautiful, with distinctly blue flowers of the Vitex variety, which reach about 1 m in height and 1.5 m in width, and additionally bloom long and profusely, are undemanding and resistant to drought:
- Vitex agnus-castus ‘Magical Chicagoland Blues’®
- Vitex agnus-castus ‘Magical Summertime Blues’®
