Phytoncides limit the development of viruses
Plants affect our health in different ways. We have already written about colors and shapes. Today’s topic is the volatile substances that they release.
The most important are phytoncides, which means the volatile fractions of antibiotics. They are bactericidal, fungicidal and some inhibit the development of viruses or damage their structure. Most of these beneficial substances are secreted by conifers. Juniperus are the record holders – they can emit up to 15 kg of volatile substances per year! Pine trees secrete terpineol, which supports our immune system. It works anti-inflammatory and helps us in the fight against viruses. Phytoncides cleanse the respiratory system and facilitate breathing.
The conclusion: let’s plant conifers! Good news – we still have pine (Pinus), spruce (Picea), cypress (Chamaecyparis) juniper (Juniperus), and thuja (Thuja). In various forms and colors, they all have something special to offer. Click here and download the list.
Conifers are beneficial to our health and give us unlimited possibilities for their arrangement.
- They are easy to plant in any small or large garden.
- They make the garden attractive also in winter when deciduous shrubs and perennials are less decorative.
- Most of them tolerate pruning and forming well, so everyone can create own bonsai.

How should I make my order?
Complete the “order” column in the attached Excel file and send it to info@hoogenraadplant.nl. Do not change the content of the file, just enter the number of plants ordered. In the email, provide the company name, contact details and the expected date of receipt of the order – this will help us plan work in the nursery.
When will my order be confirmed?
Every order we receive is confirmed within 48 hours. If during this time you do not receive an email from us, check your “spam” and “offers” or call us.
When can I pick up my order?
We adjust the dates of orders to meet your needs, so report the date of the planned collection 2 weeks in advance. This will facilitate the timely, efficient and correct preparation of plants and their careful packaging.
I’m a new customer, when do I have to pay?
We accept cash payments or bank transfers to our bank account based on a pro forma invoice before picking up your order. Pre-payment includes 100% of the order value. After making the payment, please send us confirmation of the transfer because it accelerates the preparation of the plants for pickup.
