Thuja occidentalis ‘Sunny Smaragd’ PBR

Just before Christmas, a few posts about Sunny Smaragd appeared on social media. That’s a great feeling to see how one of our plants is getting popular.
Sunny Smaragd is our candidate to the Gold Medal of Gardenia Fair (in Poznań, PL) – documents have been sent two weeks ago, now we are waiting for the jury decision. We’ll keep you posted. Below there is a short explanation why we are convinced Sunny Smaragd deserves on this prize.

Sunny Smaragd arose from an anomaly noticed on Thuja Smaragd. A single, intensively yellow twig in a sea of greenery, caught Sebastiaan’s attention to the point that he decided to cut it off and root it. Another 7 years have passed on the observation and multiplication of new plants. Sunny Smaragd took over all the positive features of the parent – good health and frost resistance, beautiful, regular shape and adaptability – it can grow in fully sunlit or semi-shaded positions. It works perfectly in the ground and containers on the terrace. Sunny Smaragd showed a stable, sunny color with a warm hue. Importantly, Sunny Smaragd doesn’t suffer from sunburn even in full sun! Warmer color and faster growth are the main distinguishing characteristics of Sunny Smaragd from the similar Golden Smaragd.
