A world of colour, in miniature. 🌸
This week at Hoogenraad, we turn our attention to the Japanese Azalea — a plant that proves great character comes in compact form.
From delicate pinks and luminous whites to fiery scarlets, glowing oranges and deep purples, each cultivar has its own personality. Subtle differences in colour, flower form and habit make this a collection full of possibilities, whether used to create bold colour combinations or refined, carefully composed plantings.
Throughout the week, we’ll be putting individual varieties in the spotlight, exploring what makes each one distinctive and celebrating the diversity within this remarkable group.
Japanese Azaleas – Cultivar Highlights
White
‘Adonis’ stands out with its pure white flowers, bringing freshness and elegance to the garden. It combines beautifully with both soft pinks and stronger colours.
Pink
‘Anouk’, ‘Petticoat’ and ‘Rosinetta’ bring soft pink tones, while ‘Blaauw’s Pink’ adds warmth with its salmon-pink flowers. ‘Geisha Pink’ offers a finer, compact flowering effect, while ‘Babush’ adds another pink accent.
Red
‘Arabesk’ and ‘Hino Crimson’ offer rich carmine and crimson-red tones. ‘Moederkensdag’ stands out with its deep red flowers, while ‘Vuyk’s Rosyred’ and ‘Vuyk’s Scarlet’ bring rosy-red and scarlet shades. ‘Fridoline’, ‘Geisha Red’ and ‘Georg Arends’ complete the group with further red-flowering variations.
Orange
‘Brilliant’ and ‘Geisha Orange’ bring vibrant orange tones, while ‘Signalglühen’ bridges orange and red with its fiery colouring.
Purple
‘Amoenum’ and ‘Geisha Purple’ create a delicate purple display. ‘Elsie Lee’ adds a softer purple tone, complemented by ‘Purpurkissen’ and ‘Thekla’ for further variation within the purple palette.
Rose-red
‘Excelsior’ adds a distinctive rose-red shade, bridging the pink and red groups and bringing extra depth to the overall colour palette.
Together, these Japanese Azaleas offer a diverse palette, from delicate pastels to bold, vibrant shades. Their compact growth and abundant flowering make them ideal for creating colourful combinations and distinctive planting schemes.

How should I make my order?
Complete the “order” column in the attached Excel file and send it to info@hoogenraadplant.nl. Do not change the content of the file, just enter the number of plants ordered. In the email, provide the company name, contact details, and the expected date of receipt of the order – this will help us plan work in the nursery.
When will my order be confirmed?
Every order we receive is confirmed within 48 hours (working days). If during this time you do not receive an email from us, check your “spam” and “offers” or call us.
When can I pick up my order?
We adjust the dates of orders to meet your needs, so report the date of the planned collection 2 weeks in advance (February-April – 3 weeks in advance). This will facilitate the timely, efficient, and correct preparation of plants and their careful packaging.
Pickup of orders is possible from Week 47 till week 19.
I’m a new customer, when do I have to pay?
We accept cash payments, credit cards, and bank transfers to our bank account based on a pro forma invoice before picking up your order. Pre-payment includes 100% of the order value. After making the payment, please send us confirmation of the transfer because it accelerates the preparation of the plants for pickup.
