Evergreen solutions for every garden
Every garden can be surprising also in the wintertime. Evergreen means much more than only conifers. Let’s have a look at the proposals below. The plants we present have an interesting shape of leaves or a catchy color of the shoots. We’re presenting candidates to create beautiful ground covers (Lonicera nitida) or hedges. Low ones made of Lonicera nitida and higher made of Prunus. What else, apart from the fact that they look good in winter, are these plants strong points? Read below
Lonicera nitida
‘Elegant’ and ‘Maigrün’ both grow up to about 80-120 cm height and over a meter wide. The differences are in the shape and color. ‘Elegant’ grows more upright, ‘Maigrün’ grows wider and has lighter leaves. They are easy to grow, they are excellent as ground cover or as low, evergreen hedges. They need a sunny or semi-shaded, sheltered and rather warm place. They can grow in zone 7a.
In April / May, small, whitish flowers appear, and the fruit ripens at the turn of August and September. They are small, spherical, blue-violet, and shiny.
Lonicera nitida ‘Elegant’ and ‘Maigrün’ are almost maintenance-free. Both are very good plants for private gardens and mass-planting.
Prunus lusitanica Tico (‘Ybrazo01’PBR)
Prunus Tico is hardy to -20ºC so with this evergreen shrub, you have a winner in the garden! Tico has green leaves with bronze, new shoots. The foliage contrasts quite nicely with the reddish stems. Plant Tico in a sunny spot in an acidic, neutral or alkaline soil. Prune in the summer. Tico becomes 150 cm wide and 250 cm tall and is with his bushy growth very suitable for a hedge, as mass planting but also as a solitary on terrace or balcony, in mixed containers or just in the garden or border.
Prunus laurocerasus Genolia® (‘Mariblon’PBR)
Prunus Genolia was developed in Switzerland. From a lot of Prunus, it was the only one that survived the Swiss winter – is hardy to -20ºC. Genolia has a narrow, upright growth that is ideal for compact hedges. Grows quite quickly approx 40-60 cm per year. The height after 10 years is maximal 3-3,5 m. It has narrow, long and glancing leaves.
Genolia can be pruned 2 times per year, tolerates all average soils, except lime-rich soil. It can be planted in sunny, half-shade and shady places.
FAQ:
How should I make my order?
Complete the “order” column in the attached Excel file and send it to info@hoogenraadplant.nl. Do not change the content of the file, just enter the number of plants ordered. In the email, provide the company name, contact details and the expected date of receipt of the order (autumn or spring) – this will help us plan work in the nursery.
When will my order be confirmed?
Every order we receive is confirmed within 48 hours. If during this time you do not receive an email from us, check your “spam” and “offers” or call us.
When can I pick up my order?
We adjust the dates of orders to meet your needs, so report the date of the planned collection in advance – from February to the end of April, 3 weeks earlier, except this period – a minimum of one week. This will facilitate the timely, efficient and correct preparation of plants and their careful packaging.
I’m a new customer, when do I have to pay?
We accept cash payments or bank transfers to our bank account based on a pro forma invoice before picking up your order. Pre-payment includes 100% of the order value. After making the payment, please send us confirmation of the transfer because it accelerates the preparation of the plants for pickup.
