Do you do that as well?
A package comes. Wrapped in bubble wrap. You take one bubble in your fingers. You squeeze. It bursts with a slight crackle pleasant to (your) ear. You take another one in your fingers. And squeeze. And another one… You don’t stop until they all burst…
You can do this with bubble wrap, but we assure you that Physocarpus opulifolius fruits will give you just as much fun. With the benefit for the environment.
The fruits of Physocarpus opulifolius darken as they mature and take on a nice red color. They have the form of an empty bladder that we can squeeze or crush under our feet. And hear that well-known sound.
Physocarpus provides us with entertainment, aesthetic impressions and ensures the survival of bees. A hedge planted with Physocarpus is eagerly inhabited by birds that help us in the fight against pests.
You can plant Physocarpus anywhere, there are no special requirements. You can choose a dwarf variety that is perfect for low borders or for a pot, such as ‘Little Greeny’ or ‘Little Joker’ with green and maroon leaves. The slightly taller ‘Little Angel’ seduces with its leaves in a warm, “cozy” color (in the Netherlands we call it “gezellig”). Or yellow-leaved varieties such as ‘Nugget’.
They make an impression when grown in a single-color group. But planted in contrasting compositions, they shock, and give a clear sign that “here we know our value”.
Whichever variety you choose, you will enjoy beautiful, healthy plants. Prune them regularly after flowering to enjoy abundant flowering the following year. And many fruits that crack in your fingers so nicely.
- The name Physocarpus comes from the Greek “physa” meaning bladder and “karpos” – fruit.
- The second part of the name “opulifolius” refers to the Viburnum opulus with which it has a similar leaf shape.
- The English name is “ninebark” and refers to the bark which peels picturesquely on older shoots and reveals successive layers in various shades of brown.
The minimum order depends on the size of the plants:
- P9 -> 80 pcs / variety
- P12 -> 75 pcs / variety
- C1.5, C2 – 50 pcs / variety
- C3 and bigger -> 25 pcs / variety
FAQ:
How should I make my order?
Complete the “order” column in the attached Excel file and send it to info@hoogenraadplant.nl. Do not change the content of the file, just enter the number of plants ordered. In the email, provide the company name, contact details and the expected date of receipt of the order – this will help us plan work in the nursery.
When will my order be confirmed?
Every order we receive is confirmed within 48 hours. If during this time you do not receive an email from us, check your “spam” and “offers” or call us.
When can I pick up my order?
We adjust the dates of orders to meet your needs, so report the date of the planned collection 2 weeks in advance (February-April – 3 weeks in advance). This will facilitate the timely, efficient, and correct preparation of plants and their careful packaging.
Pickup of orders is possible from September 2021 to mid-May 2022.
I’m a new customer, when do I have to pay?
We accept cash payments or bank transfers to our bank account based on a pro forma invoice before picking up your order. Pre-payment includes 100% of the order value. After making the payment, please send us confirmation of the transfer because it accelerates the preparation of the plants for pickup.
