Next week we are going to Poland to the Gardenia fair in Poznań (February 13-15, Hall 7a, stand 42). This year, during the exhibition, we are going to promote 3 beautiful plants:
-
Thuja occidentalis Totem Smaragd® – vote for it in the Gardenia Grand Prix competition – click here to go to the voting page.
-
Juniperus scopulorum Blue Ivory®
-
Hydrangea paniculata Skyfall®
We like these plants! And they are also liked by the jury of competitions. All of them have already been awarded during previous exhibitions in the Netherlands and in Russia. Now it’s time for Poland! More details below.
Totem Smaragd – Grand Prix winner
Our last year’s novelty – Thuja occidentalis Totem Smaragd – this year was honored by the jury of the Gardenia Grand Prix competition. Totem Smaragd received this prestigious award for its unique features:
– very narrow shape – only 40 cm broadness
– exceptional, natural density without pruning
– multipurpose use – in sunny, semi-shaded and shady places, as a single plant and as a low hedge.
Totem Smaragd is currently available (pictures below):
– in C2 – 2,50€
– in P9 – 1,50€

Almost like the well-known Blue Arrow, but different
Juniperus scopulorum Blue Ivory looks a bit like its relative Blue Arrow with its shape and color. With only one major difference – Blue Ivory shoots are creamily variegated. Thanks to this, Blue Ivory looks lighter and slightly less serious than Blue Arrow.
It allows you to create beautiful hedges that practically don’t require cutting. It can be planted in containers as a patio or terrace decoration, it can be an element of a flower bed or heath.
Blue Ivory has an upright, narrow habit up to about 50 cm wide and about 2.5 m in height. It’s frost resistant to -20ºC.
If you want to create a place of rest in the Mediterranean style and with flashes of the Italian sun, Blue Ivory is a great choice.
Blue Ivory was awarded the silver medal at GrootGroen+ 2019
The amazing impression of huge inflorescences
Hydrangea paniculata Skyfall always reminds me of comics about Asterix and Obelix. The ancient Gauls, the main characters of these comics, were afraid of one thing. That the sky would fall on their heads. I wonder how they would cope with the amazing impression that this Hydrangea makes.
Hydrangea Skyfall has huge inflorescences filled with unusual, hyacinth-like flowers. The plant is fully frost resistant (up to -30 degrees) and grows up to about 120 cm in height. It has a wide range of usage, for example, every tiny garden and /or a large container on the terrace, because it grows in a moderate way.
Skyfall requires a sunny or semi-shaded position and regular watering. Blooms on annual shoots. To strength the decorative effect, we strongly recommend strong pruning in spring. As a result of this treatment, the plants will get more branches and more flowers. Remember about good fertilization because flowering consumes a lot of energy (in the nursery we use long-acting fertilizers).
The variety awarded with a gold medal in the competition of novelties at the Flowers Expo in Moscow in 2018 and with a silver medal at the GrootGroenPlus in 2019.
Skyfall is currently available in very limited quantity (pictures below, taken in Aug 2019):
– in P9 – 2,00€
