“Taxus” means arch and ‘Liberty’PBR means great yield
We start the new year with a presentation of the plants that are available in large quantities (regular readers know that I often use the phrase “will be available next season”, but not this time).
Today, a new variety of blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum) in our offer and universal yews (Taxus) that perfectly match to any space.
Vaccinium corymbosum ‘Liberty’ PBR
‘Liberty’PBR was bred by James F. Hancock at the University of Michigan in the US as a cross between ‘Brigitta Blue’ and ‘Elliot’. It obtained the status of protected variety in 2004. In our offer, it has appeared this season.
‘Liberty’PBR is a late variety (fruits ripen about 10-14 days before ‘Aurora’), very fertile. It grows up to about 1.5 m in height, is very resistant to low temperatures to -37°C. Flower buds are very resistant to spring frosts. It’s easy to cultivate.
The fruits are nice, healthy, very tasty and firm. They are suitable for mechanical harvesting (good variety for plantations) and can be stored for a long time. ‘Liberty’PBR is self-pollinating, but the cross-pollination increases the quality of the crop. ‘Lateblue’ and ‘Aurora’ are seen as the best pollinators.
The most important features of Vaccinium c. ‘Liberty’PBR:
– high frost hardiness to –37°C
– bud resistance to spring frosts
– high yield
Taxus
There is no need to write much about yew – Taxus. It’s well known that they are great as formed hedges and that they are irreplaceable in shady places.
Curiosities about Taxus:
1. Taxus baccata belongs to the longest living plants on earth. Can live even 2-3 thousand years.
2. In the Middle Ages, yew wood was used to make weapons, e.g. arches (taxus in Latin means arch) and furniture.
3. Taxus baccata occurs naturally in Europe and in some countries was protected as early as the 15th century.
4. Yew wood doesn’t contain resin.
5. All parts of the yew (with the exception of the red berry-like fruit aril) are toxic to humans and animals. The exception is birds, which play an important role in the spread of these plants.
6. Taxus media is a cross between Taxus baccata and Taxus cuspidata bred in 1900 in the USA.

Every order we receive is confirmed within 48 hours. If during this time you do not receive an email from us, check your “spam” and “offers” or call us.
When can I pick up my order?
We adjust the dates of orders to meet your needs, so report the date of the planned collection 3 weeks in advance. This will facilitate the timely, efficient and correct preparation of plants and their careful packaging.
